Saxenda® 6mg/ml is a once-daily injectable prescription medicine used as an adjunct to a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity for chronic weight management. It contains liraglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist that helps regulate appetite and calorie intake.
It is indicated for adults with:
BMI ≥ 30 kg/m² (obese)
BMI ≥ 27 to < 30 kg/m² (overweight) with at least one weight-related condition such as prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, or obstructive sleep apnea.
If after 12 weeks at the maintenance dose of 3.0mg/day, weight loss is less than 5% of initial body weight, treatment should be discontinued.
Ingredients
Liraglutide (active ingredient) – 6mg/ml
Excipients: Disodium phosphate dihydrate, phenol, propylene glycol, water for injections
How to Use
Administration: Subcutaneous injection only (abdomen, thigh, or upper arm). Do not inject intravenously or intramuscularly.
Dosing Schedule:
Week 1 – 0.6mg daily
Week 2 – 1.2mg daily
Week 3 – 1.8mg daily
Week 4 – 2.4mg daily
Week 5 onward – 3.0mg daily (maintenance dose)
Missed Dose: If within 12 hours, take as soon as possible. If more than 12 hours late, skip and continue the regular schedule.
Special Populations:
No dose adjustment for mild/moderate renal or hepatic impairment
Not recommended for severe impairment or patients ≥ 75 years old
Do not combine with other GLP-1 receptor agonists
Extra Info
Common Side Effects: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, dry mouth, abdominal discomfort
Less Common: Gallstones, pancreatitis, injection site reactions, insomnia
Rare: Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)
